ABOUT SHIATSU

Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing, holistic therapy which uses acupressure along with passive stretches and joint rotations to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities.  It is based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine principle that 'ki' or 'chi' (lifeforce energy) travels through pathways in our body called meridians.

Shiatsu aims to balance 'ki' that flows through these meridians nourishing the organs, muscles, glands, nerves and blood.  An imbalance in this energy network can lead to fatigue, pain and illness.  A shiatsu session helps to relieve stress and pain, increase muscle and joint function, strengthen the body, and increase health and overall well-being.

Shiatsu is received on a futon or low massage table.  Please bring loose, comfortable clothing (ie: sweat pants, t-shirt, socks) to wear during the session.  No oil is used.

SHIATSU TRAINING AND REGULATION:  Shiastu is regulated in BC by the Shiatsu Therapy Association.  As a Registered Shiatsu Therapist, I have met the educational requirements set out by the Association.  This includes study of anatomy and physiology, along with the eastern philosophies of 5 Element Theory and Meridian Theory.  Please see www.shiatsutherapy.ca for more information regarding the regulation of shiatsu in BC.
